Kick-off for Monday’s match is 8:00pm which should mean plenty of time to sample the finest pubs West London has to offer.

Pre-match pubs

The best away pubs for Chelsea are found near Earls Court tube station (travel details shown below). The venues in this neck of the woods are generally quite small so we’ve selected a few should you find your first choice a bit too busy.

There are four pubs within a stones throw of Earls Court station on Earls Court Road; these are The Blackbird (details), The Courtfield (details), Earls Court Tavern (details), and The Prince of Teck (details).

The final pub, The Finborough Arms (details), is a perfect pit-stop for the walk down from Earls Court towards the ground.

Getting there

The pubs we’ve recommended are all found around Earls Court station (District Line and Picadilly Line). Earls Court station is around 25-30 minutes walk from Stamford Bridge, however, you can get the District Line from Earls Court to Fulham Broadway which is much closer to the ground.

For those who are heading straight to the game the nearest tube station is Fulham Broadway (District Line) which is a five minute walk from the ground.

As usual, watch the MSS social media channels for movements on the day. UTB!

Mini Match Pack
An ugly win against doomed Sunderland and last week’s superb performance against Manchester City showed that there was some fight still in this Boro side. Sadly with three wins needed to keep alive any chances of survival it looks like being a case of too little, too late.

Especially when you consider Monday nights opposition. Chelsea have lost just three times since a 3-0 drubbing at Arsenal forced Antonio Conte to change tact and move towards a 3-4-3 formation that has been seemingly unbeatable since. Two defeats in their last six games, including at home to Crystal Place (one of only two home defeats), suggested a wobble in their title charge. However, a resounding victory at Everton last week, coupled with Tottenham’s loss at West Ham last night means Chelsea are just victories away from the title.

Chelsea and Boro have a lot of history; the numerous cup-finals, the 1988 play-off victory to seal Boro’s return to Division One, and the sharing of players such as Hasselbaink, Zenden, Ross Turnbull. However, visits to Stamford Bridge have proven a difficult affair; Boro’s last point came in April 2004, while our last win at the Bridge was way back in March 1975.

In a bit of light relief, Boro are through to the quarter-finals of the FA Cup!

Match Pack: Crystal Palace

It’s a massive game at Selhurst Park – make sure you join MSS for the prematch!

Prematch Pubs

MSS have chosen the Barrowboy and Banker at London Bridge as a prematch pub for saturday’s game. We have used the pub in the past and it is extremely close to London Bridge Station.

For those based south of the Thames who are keen to avoid a trip into Central London then join a group Boro fans who are meeting at the Moon Under Water in Balham (SW12 9BP).

Getting there

According to advice from the Crystal Palace FC website, Selhurst park is served by three train stations: Norwood Junction, Thornton Heath and Selhurst Station. The quickest route to the ground is a Norwood Junction train from London Bridge which takes either 13 or 24 minutes. The ground is a 15 minute walk from Norwood Junction station.

Mini Match Pack
Middlesbrough goals are like London buses – you wait ages for one and then three come along at once. Fresh from a free-scoring display against Oxford United the Boro turn their attention back to the meat and drink of the ongoing relegation scrap at the bottom of the Premier League – starting with a proverbial six-pointer at free-falling Crystal Palace.

Palace are in awful form. A change of calendar year and a change of manager have done nothing to arrest a slide which began in January 2016. They are bottom in the Premier League form table over the last 10 games – just four points in that time has seen them slide from lower mid-table to second bottom. The new manager bounce expected by Sam Allerdyce’s appointment never materialised, especially at home, where they are without a win since December 3rd.

Boro will look to avenge the defeat suffered when these two teams met earlier this season. Our last win at Selhurst Park came in September 2011 courtesy of a Marvin Emnes goal, however, we’ll be keen to avoid a repeat of the 4-1 drubbing suffered on our last visit in February 2013.

MSS Match Pack: Watford!

Here’s all the information you will need to know ahead of Boro’s trip to Watford this Saturday (14th January).

Travel Details

Watford v Middlesbrough, kicks off at 15:00 on Saturday the 14th of January.

MSS Members will be getting the 12:24 train from Euston to Watford Junction which should take around 15 minutes. Please be aware when booking tickets to and from Watford that journey times vary between different providers.

London Overground takes by far the longest (around 45 minutes) while London Midland can vary from between 15 to 25 minutes depending on whether the train is direct to Watford Junction.

Watford Junction station is around a 20 minute walk from Vicarage Road with lots of watering holes on the way.

There are no planned engineering works on any of the lines into Watford this weekend.

Pre-match pubs

Ahead of the game, we’ll be heading to the ‘Moon Under Water’ on Watford High Street (WD17 2BS).

‘The Moon’ is a decent and large Wetherspoons serving full-English breakfasts, a selection of beers including real ale and is away-friendly. The pub is a 10 minute walk from both Watford Junction Station and Vicarage Road.

As usual, watch the MSS social media channels for movements on the day.

Mini Match Pack

One point from nine over Christmas had undone the progress made by much-needed victories over Hull and Swansea, however, many Boro fans view January as a month where we can kick on and re-establish a gap between us and the relegation zone. With optimism re-ignited by our second half performance against Sheffield Wednesday, now might be the perfect time to take on Walter Mazzarri’s faltering Watford side.

Watford started well under their new manager with just three defeats in their opening ten matches, however, the tide has well and truly turned with seven defeats in their last ten. This slump in form has coincided with an inability to keep a clean sheet – they are without one since beating Hull at the end of October.

Watford are somewhat of a bogey team for Boro over recent years with our most recent victory against the Hornets coming in October 2012 when Boro recovered from a Troy Deeney goal after 45 seconds to run out 2-1 winners at Vicarage Road. From a Boro perspective only George Friend and Grant Leadbitter remain from the team which picked up all three points that day.

Amendment: With the recent passing of Watford icon Graham Taylor, MSS has been informed there is a planned applause on the 72nd minute in commemoration.

Match Pack: Arsenal – Saturday 22nd Oct

Middlesbrough face a difficult trip to high flying Arsenal and MSS have all your prematch plans.

Those lucky MSS Members who got tickets are meeting in The Worlds End in Finsbury Park, just a few stops from Kings Cross (Victoria and Piccadilly lines) and a short walk from the ground.

Another option is Drayton Park, a recommended “away fans pub”, also close to the Emirates. The nearest tube stop is Arsenal on the Piccadilly line

Fans should allow plenty of travelling time to allow for the large crowds at the stadium.

Match Pack

Boro’s last trip to the Emirates was an ill-fated FA Cup tie in February 2015 when the Gunners continued to win the trophy. The Teessider’s last league win at Arsenal was in April 2001, thanks to two own goals and Hamilton Ricard.

Arsenal have been in great form recently, including a 6-0 hammering of Bulgarian champions Ludogorets.

Will Boro have enough? In Aitor we trust.

#MSS Boat to West Ham United!

After the recent success of our boats, MSS has decided Boro fans deserve to arrive to our maiden visit to the Olympic Stadium in style. We have booked the Elizabethan river cruise, a 1890’s replica paddle steamer, for Boro’s fixture with West Ham United on Saturday the 1st of October.

The Boat will be open from 11:00am and will be departing from Westminster Pier (details) at 11:15am (prompt) so make sure you give yourself plenty of time to get there. We will then set sail up and down the River Thames, taking in all its glorious sights and monuments, before finally docking at North Greenwich at around 1:30pm.

North Greenwich pier is a short walk to North Greenwich tube station on the Jubilee line, a 9-minute journey to Stratford station (nearest tube stop for the Olympic stadium).

We want the boat to be a wall of colour of noise so please bring your flags, banners and singing voices.  The boat has a cash bar (please bring cash for a prompt service) serving a selection of drinks but bringing your own alcohol onboard is prohibited.

Tickets for the boat are priced at £15 (exc. fees) and are on sale now. Ticket costs go towards ensuring MSS can continue to run events like this in the future.
